Hi! I'm Megan of Meg's Cozy Crochet

I've always had a creative side. In fact, I even won the art award back in public school! As I've gotten older, I've always needed something to keep both my hands and my imagination busy. Before crochet, I enjoyed finger knitting, but I've always loved the idea of learning new skills and finding new ways to create things. In 2024, I discovered crochet, and what started as a way to channel my creativity quickly became a passion. I fell in love with it almost immediately, and I haven't really looked back since!

One question my mom always asks is, "Are you using a pattern or just making it up?" More often than not, it's the latter! I love taking a photo, an idea, or even a simple description and figuring out how to bring it to life with yarn. I'll study a picture, look into stitches when I need to, and then just start crocheting. Sometimes the best way to figure something out is to pick up a hook and see what happens. Every project is a new challenge, and that's one of my favourite parts of crocheting.

As for inspiration, a lot of my ideas come from scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. You never know when you'll come across something that makes you think, "I could crochet that!" Sometimes it's a cute idea, sometimes it's something completely unexpected, and sometimes it's an idea that I just can't stop thinking about until I make it. My crochet style is a little bit of everything. I love that cozy, creative vibe, but I'm also happy to try making just about anything. If an idea catches my attention, chances are I'll at least consider figuring out how to make it with yarn.

Some of my favourite creations have been my 8.5-foot-long forest dragon, a Volkswagen bus pillow I made for my mom, and baby outfits. Each project has its own charm, and I love that crochet lets me create such different things with the same basic tools: yarn, a hook, and a whole lot of patience. Well, patience most of the time!

Of course, patience isn't always my strongest quality when I'm excited about a project. Once I get an idea in my head and start bringing it to life, I can have a hard time putting it down. I get so caught up in what I'm making that I tend to forget about all my other responsibilities. It's hard to think about anything else when you're excited to see how a project is going to turn out! I just want to keep going until I can finally see the finished creation sitting in front of me.

For me, crochet is more than just a hobby. It's a creative outlet that gives me a way to channel my ADHD, keep my imagination busy, and turn all those ideas in my head into something real. I love the process of creating, experimenting, and figuring things out as I go. There's something satisfying about starting with a simple ball of yarn and watching it gradually become something completely different. Even when a project challenges me, I enjoy having the opportunity to learn something new and see what I can create.

But if there's one thing I love most about crocheting, it's seeing the reaction of the person I'm making something for. There's something special about putting time, thought, and care into a creation and then getting to share it with someone. A lot of the things I make are keepsakes, and I love the idea that something handmade can become meaningful to the person who receives it. Whether it's a gift, a favourite character, a nostalgic item, or something made to match a person's own idea, I hope they feel just as excited to see the finished piece as I am to finally finish it!

That excitement is a big part of why I started selling my creations. I love seeing people get excited about the things I make, and there's something special about handing someone a finished piece and seeing the smile it brings to their face. Being able to share that joy with others is what inspired me to turn my passion into Meg's Cozy Crochet Crafts. What started as something I loved doing for myself has become a way to create things for other people to enjoy, too.

One of the things I especially love is making custom orders. I enjoy the challenge of taking someone's idea and figuring out how to turn it into something tangible. Everyone has their own ideas, interests, and memories, and I love that crochet gives me a way to help bring those ideas to life. My hope is to keep growing the custom side of my business, creating pieces that are personal to the people who order them. I also enjoy the idea of bringing my more familiar creations to markets, where people can discover something they love and take it home with them.

When I'm not crocheting, I'm usually happiest keeping things cozy at home. I'm quite introverted, so staying in is often more my style than going out, and I prefer spending time with my small group of friends. I'm also a big dog lover, especially when it comes to my mini Goldendoodle, Ernie! Life outside crochet is a little quieter, but I think that makes having a creative outlet I can get excited about all the more enjoyable.

At the end of the day, Meg's Cozy Crochet Crafts is about more than yarn and handmade things. It's about creativity, trying new ideas, making something personal, and sharing a little happiness with others. Every project starts somewhere, whether it's a picture I stumble across online, an idea someone brings to me, or something I suddenly decide I need to figure out how to make. And somehow, with a little yarn and a lot of determination, those ideas become something real.

Life is made of moments. I just happen to stitch them together!
